September 2002, Johns Hopkins University School of medicine, Maryland, USA.

Yu Wenjie, a postdoctoral student, received a call from deputy manager Wang of the company and quickly drove to Washington.

After a brief exchange of greetings, deputy manager Wang came straight to the point and hoped that Yu Wenjie would complete her studies and return to the motherland as soon as possible - because the reform and diversion of Yanhua staff hospital is about to begin, and many problems need her to go back and solve. It takes a year to study for a postdoctoral degree in the United States, but she still holds the post of president of Yanhua hospital.

She thanked the leaders for their trust and was determined to complete the research project and return home as soon as possible with hard work.

Johns Hopkins University School of medicine is a first-class medical university with excellent scientific research conditions. Yu Wenjie's post doctoral research project is breast cancer molecular pathology research.

She especially cherished this opportunity, worked hard, walked and trotted every day, and worked in the laboratory for more than 12 hours

She finished her post doctoral research three months in advance!

At the end of December 2002, loaded with fruitful achievements, Yu Wenjie refused his tutor's repeated retention, and flew back to her haunted motherland.

SARS

After returning home for a few months, she often felt heavy pressure from difficult and complex reforms; Where will the hospital go and how can she lead everyone to a road of sustainable development? She often tossed and turned about it. Just when she was worried about the future of the hospital, the terrible SARS devil came!

On April 16, 2003, Miao, a student of North Jiaotong University, was sent to the hospital because of high fever and other symptoms. He was diagnosed as a suspected patient of atypical pneumonia.

Yu Wenjie rushed to the hospital, and she fully understood the strong infectious and terrible nature of SARS. After an instant of tension, she quickly entered the front line of command: protect according to the plan, instruct doctors and nurses to enter the wartime state, fully start the ward, and immediately follow up disinfection and isolation measures... Bearing great responsibility and danger, while giving full command, she encountered great mistrust from the patient's family!

"Dean Yu, can my son be cured?I ask that my son to be transferred to the city hospital immediately..."

"We will do our best..."

"No, it's no use saying anything else, so I asked for a transfer..."

Miao's mother, desperate for her son, called leaders everywhere and even pounded the table: "you can't be responsible for delaying my son's illness! You transfer my son right away -- "

Open distrust burned her heart like fire, but she understood this mother. On the one hand, she was busy arranging the hospital work, on the one hand, she was in contact with all the professional hospitals in Beijing. However, the hospital specially designed for the treatment of SARS patients in the city is already overcrowded.

There was no hope of transferring to another hospital. Under the calm and patient persuasion of President Wen Jie, the helpless mother had to agree that her son was admitted to Yanhua staff hospital.

Adversity

The SARS Ward was in continuous contact with SARS patients, and the medical staff were completely isolated from the outside world. They took the elevator specially used to transport the bodies every day. Coupled with all kinds of terrorist rumors, everyone is was a state of extreme panic and anxiety. The medical department immediately reported this situation to Yu Wenjie.

Yu Wenjie had not had a rest for 24 hours: on the morning of April 19, she participated in two emergency meetings of the Beijing health system. In the afternoon, she participated in the emergency meeting of the District Health Bureau. At two o'clock in the early morning, she came home tired. She received a telephone call from the district SARS prevention and control expert group and asked her to attend an emergency consultation in Liangxiang immediately

After listening to the report from the director of the medical department, Yu Wenjie knows the seriousness of the problem. The war without gunpowder is in a severe moment. She must persuade and lead her soldiers to fight to the death with flesh and blood and unrelenting fighting. There is no way out!

She called vice president Guo, dressed neatly and entered the SARS isolation area on the 13th floor without hesitation.

The medical staff in the isolation area were excited

Yu Wenjie patiently listened to everyone's opinions and said sincerely, "we know the grievances in our hearts when we risked our lives to enter the isolation zone. We all have wives, children, husbands, parents and families... But now the country is in trouble， everyone has a duty to his country. You fight bravely in the SARS area, and the comrades outside, even the whole Yanhua company, Yanshan area and the whole Beijing city are involved in this war without gunsmoke... "

She introduced the situation of SARS prevention and treatment in Beijing and even the whole country, talked about the hope of the company leaders and Yanshan people for the hospital, the importance of this battle to the image of the hospital, and the great attention of the patient's family members to the treatment work of the hospital... The excited crowd finally calmed down.

In the afternoon, the hospital urgently purchased several TVs and installed them in the isolation area; Hospital leaders came to see everyone with flowers and fruits every day; The newspaper was delivered, which published the stories of medical staff fighting SARS bravely; The TV program was broadcast, which introduced the touching story of medical workers fighting in the SARS Ward... The care of leaders, spiritual encouragement and volunteer service made the medical staff in the SARS Ward burst out the spirit and courage of selfless dedication and not afraid of sacrifice, and then performed the heroic symphony of soul stirring

On April 26, college student Miao's body temperature rose again, his condition worsened, his breathing became more and more difficult, the medical staff were in a heavy and abnormal mood.

The patient's mother called Yu Wenjie several times a day to see her son... Yu Wenjie felt like a knife in her heart. She reluctantly refused the visit request and instructed the medical staff in the SARS Ward to spare no effort to rescue Miao.

The expert group timely adjusted the treatment plan, ECG monitoring and reported the condition at any time, one hour, two hours... After scientific treatment and careful nursing, the patient's condition improved significantly.

"Miao is saved! It's getting better! " The good news, like snowflakes, fluttered in the staff hospital and Yanshan area, providing a trace of comfort to people's anxiety and fear.

Home and country

When the student Miao of the North Jiaotong University appeared to be in a state of illness, SARS's shadow was coming to Yu Wenjie's family.

She hadn't been home for more than 10 days. Her daughter, who was preparing for the high school entrance examination, reviewed her lessons and took care of herself at home alone. Once, Yu Wenjie took time to go home to see her daughter Ye Lin. The kitchen was dirty and the ground was full of empty bags of instant noodles... That's how her daughter made do with her life!

"No, the child is facing the high school entrance examination. I have to ask someone to accompany and take care of her..."

So Yu Wenjie called her husband Lao Zhao. On April 27, the husband came back by train from Shijiazhuang and took his niece to take care of his daughter.

When he got home from the train, Lao Zhao felt feverish and uncomfortable. The daughter said alertly, "Dad, you have a fever. Don't be at home. Go to the hospital right away!" Yu Wenjie, who is holding a meeting in the company, received a call from his husband and immediately asked him to go to the hospital for examination.

Lao Zhao was taken to the hospital. The examination results showed that he had lung shadow and high fever. In addition, he rushed back by train from Shijiazhuang... It showed that he had entered the ranks of suspected SARS patients. Other leaders of the hospital deliberated very difficultly, and finally truthfully informed Yu Wenjie of Lao Zhao's condition.

Yu Wenjie repressed the pain in her heart and said calmly, "is there a problem with Lao Zhao? If yes, according to the regulations of the hospital! The people who contacted with Lao Zhao and I immediately observed and isolated at home according to the regulations... "

In this way, the husband was admitted to the SARS isolation ward; Yu Wenjie, her daughter and niece were observed in isolation.

Foreign and domestic troubles followed, and Yu Wenjie was deeply trapped in pain and loneliness. She was unwilling to eat and couldn't sleep at night. In her sleep, she was worried about the work of the hospital in combating SARS and her husband's condition. She deeply tasted the feeling of living like a year. As president, when SARS was raging, she could not be placed in front, but was "imprisoned" at home. This was her greatest pain and regret, though she could command everyone to continue fighting on the phone.

Seven days later, Yu Wenjie strongly demanded to release the isolation and return to the front line. Yu Wenjie was very clear: in accordance with the regulations, patients who are closely related to SARS or suspected patients should be observed for two weeks. She asked to return to the front line immediately because they had been separated for a week before her husband came back; After her husband came back, the two met only under close protection. She had been separated from her husband for two weeks, which met the requirement of isolated observation.

After asking for instructions and volunteering again and again, Yu Wenjie was finally approved to return to her post!

Yu Wenjie returned to her post a week in advance and was immediately criticized. Someone called the leader: "why did Yu Wenjie go to work in isolation for a week? What if it infects others? "

After listening to the leader's inquiry, Yu Wenjie felt like bottles of condiment spilled over in her heart, but she soon recovered her reason: People say so, it is also responsible for the hospital and others! So she can only explain and explain again

On this day, Yu Wenjie received a call from the SARS Ward, saying that her husband's condition was getting worse. The director of the nursing department standing on one side said gravely, "are you going to have a look?"

Yu Wenjie shook his head: "no one is allowed to see it. How can I go? There  doctors and nurses, they can treat them as they should. How do I work if I go and something goes wrong? Alas - it's really down to the wire... We’ll see... "She tried to restrain herself, and her eyes were filled with tears.

After consultation with experts in the city, it was believed that Lao Zhao's symptoms are caused by taking hormones and other drugs. Sure enough, after stopping and adjusting the medicine, the condition soon alleviated.

Retrograde

That day, a newly hospitalized patient in the department of internal medicine suddenly had a high fever. In case of emergency, the hospital immediately isolated the internal medicine ward and asked relevant experts in Beijing to consult as soon as possible. The leaders of Yanhua company clearly instructed that the isolation could not be lifted without the above opinions.

The sudden isolation flustered the whole internal medicine ward on the 11th floor: family members, patients, accompanying and hospitalized, as well as doctors and nurses. They sent water and food, disinfected and transferred, waited in the persistence, and waited for the diagnosis by the Beijing expert group at 4 p.m.

But when it arrived at 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., the municipal expert group was still inconclusive and said it would not be decided until the leadership office meeting. Family members and patients were anxious!

Based on her own experience, Yu Wenjie believeed that although the patient had a fever, he had no obvious SARS symptoms. Moreover, there was no abnormality in chest CT. Formal isolation needed the approval of relevant departments

Late at night, Yu Wenjie still dialed the company's leaders: "this is Yu Wenjie. I think the patient is OK. Such isolation is inappropriate and should be changed to medical observation. "

The leader still asked her to wait.

Yu Wenjie asked to do another CT on the patient and communicated with the company leaders again: "we are sure that the patient is not SARS. If something goes wrong, I am personally responsible." This was not only a statement of taking great risks, but also an extreme responsibility to patients and others. After repeated research, the leaders of the company fully believed in Yu Wenjie and agreed to remove the isolation.

Many people were sweating for Yu Wenjie. If... They didn’t dare to think about it.

Soon, the consultation results of experts in the city came out: the patient was diagnosed with a bad cold! A stone in everyone's heart fell to the ground. Early the next morning, the patient's high fever really gone.

Women are not water

During the encounter with SARS, Yanhua staff hospital achieved its promise to the people of Yanshan with its outstanding achievements, such as “the mortality rate of SARS patients is zero, the infection rate of medical staff is zero, and the missed diagnosis rate of SARS patients is zero.

The evil SARS is the devil. After being pursued by people, it is finally accepted into the magic bottle. On June 24, WHO officials announced the "double lifting" of Beijing, so people began to live a peaceful life again.

College student Miao recovered and was discharged from the hospital. He and his mother made a special trip to the hospital to see and thank doctors and nurses. Miao's mother said, "President Yu, I'm really sorry... At the beginning, I lost such a temper with you and said so many things I shouldn't say. Please understand my heart as a mother - first, I thank president Yu and second, I thank doctors and nurses. You saved my son..."

Listening to the heartfelt words, Yu Wenjie's face overflowed with laughter and her eyes were also filled with crystal tears

"A woman is not water. Yu Wenjie is not a simple woman!" The Deputy Secretary of the Party committee of the staff hospital evaluated her with such an exclamation.

In July 2003, Yu Wenjie was rated as an advanced individual in the national fight against SARS. She said: "this is an honor to the whole team and staff of the hospital. I'm just lucky to be their representative. "

Yu Wenjie was born in 1956 in Jilin.
