In July 2002, the sun was scorching in Beijing, and a press conference attracting the attention of the medical community was being held. Five famous thoracic surgery experts from Beijing Union Medical College Hospital and Peking University Hospital including Professor Xin Yuling, the pioneer of New Chinese Thoracic Surgery, attended the press conference and spoke highly of them.

The inventor of Zhao's artificial trachea is Zhao Fengrui, President of Phoenix medical group, a medical expert who has worked silently in front of the operating table for 50 years.

President Zhao Fengrui is an internationally renowned expert in lung transplantation, lung volume reduction and artificial trachea. He has successively studied with three international top experts - Professor Xin Yuling (leader of thoracic surgery in China and winner of the Centennial Medal of the founding of the party), Professor Cooper of the United States (world expert in thoracic surgery) and Professor Jacob of the United Kingdom (world expert in cardiothoracic surgery). He initiated Zhao's artificial trachea surgery, which is a real artificial trachea, which achieves the purpose of biological healing with the patient's own trachea, and truly becomes an organic part of the patient's own trachea. With this technology, no matter how long the trachea is removed, there is a way to connect the cut trachea.

President Zhao Fengrui was the first to carry out and promote thoracoabdominal shunt in the treatment of intractable pleural effusion in China, the first to carry out lung volume reduction surgery in China (1996), the first to carry out the treatment method of "bronchial blockage lung volume reduction", successfully treated a patient with long-term respiratory failure and mechanical ventilation, so that the patient finally removed the ventilator.

There are many reasons for tracheal abnormalities, such as intubation, tracheotomy, tracheal trauma, tracheal stenosis and so on.

The trachea is not only delicate, but also precious. It is cut one section at a time, unlike other organs such as the small intestine and skin. The diseased trachea needs to be removed: if the removal is too short, the abnormal part may not be removed; If the resection is too long and the docking cannot be pulled, it will be life-threatening.

At this point, the only solution is to do tracheal transplantation or artificial trachea. However, until 2002, there was no precedent of successful tracheal transplantation in the world, and there was no artificial trachea that could form biological healing with the patient's trachea.

President Zhao Fengrui was anxious about the patients, devoted himself to research, and designed the "memory alloy two-stage forming artificial trachea", which took many years to improve repeatedly, and finally succeeded in 50 canine experiments.

President Zhao's kindness and efforts moved God. At the end of 2001, a female patient with tracheal tumor who had been ill for six years came from Shangqiu, Henan Province.

Previously, she had been to many large hospitals and specialized hospitals such as Zhengzhou, Shanghai and Beijing. Finally, with a glimmer of hope, she found Zhao Fengrui, President of Phoenix medical group.

After years of suffering from tracheal tumors, the female patient can no longer lie flat and can only sit upright and gasp. After laser and radiotherapy, the patient relapsed, the tumor was 4.5 cm, and the lumen stenosis was more than 75%.

Many hospitals refused to provide treatment. The situation was getting serious and the patient felt more and more difficult to breathe, facing the risk of asphyxia and death. The patient already knew that the "exchange air tube" is the only hope for treatment.

President Zhao said that there was no successful "tracheal transplantation" operation in the world, let alone artificial trachea. The artificial trachea he had developed for many years was only in the stage of animal experiment.

She said laboriously, "for many years, life is worse than death. It's better to fight than suffocate. It's too painful now. It’s better to have a short pain than a long one. " Her last words moved President Zhao.

The patient's husband's attitude was more firm and asked president Zhao must go to the operation at ease.

Due to the patient's complete trust in the doctor and firm willingness to operate, Zhao's artificial trachea was applied to the first clinical case. The result was a success, and the patient also saved her endangered life because of the operation.

Since then, thanks to the support of this technology, president Zhao Fengrui led the team to do all kinds of difficult tracheectomy operations, saving dozens of doomed patients and benefiting patients with various tracheal stenosis. The successful treatment of this patient shows that the development of medicine requires not only the efforts of doctors, but also the cooperation of patients. Without the understanding and support of patients, many medical problems can not be solved.

Bian que, an ancient miracle doctor, once said to his apprentice, "Those who believe will heal, and those who do not believe will not heal."
